Namibia in Africa is home to the second largest canyon in the world! The Fish River Canyon.
Fish River Canyon is located in the South of Namibia, just north of the border of South Africa. The length of the canyon is around 160 km long, 27 km wide and up to 550 m deep.
It was an amazing sight to see this canyon wind its way through the desert.
We had a nice walk around part of the canyon rim and saw some amazing views.
It is such a beautiful landscape with the desert and these steep cliff faces.
There is not much water running through the river. But apparently once a year when it floods the river rages.
Just be super careful if you decide to venture out to the edge as it’s a big drop from there!! And the closest hospital is pretty far away… so watch your step.
Hiking through the canyon
You can do a couple of different hiking trails through the canyon, which would be an amazing experience. Although you need to book ahead and a minimum of three people in order to organise a hike. When doing the multiple day hikes you sleep under the stars at the bottom of the canyon. Sounds pretty cool! For more info, or to book a hiking package or other activities, check out this website.
There is also an amazing lookout which is a perfect spot for some beers or wine to enjoy while you sit back and watch the sun set over the canyon.
So if you ever find yourself in Namibia make sure you check out the Fish River Canyon!
Another amazing day of this overlanding African adventure in the books!
